About Sidewalk Talk
Sidewalk Talk was created by Lily Sloane of Lily Sloane Therapy and Traci Ruble of Psyched in San Francisco in an effort to help heal that which divides us through the fine art of skilled listening on the streets of San Francisco.
LA-based Producer Brooke Dooley discovered Sidewalk Talk on Twitter and immediately reached out to bring this movement to the streets of Los Angeles. The movement correlates directly with her upcoming film LISTEN. Learn more about the film here.
How Does it Work?
For two hours multiple spaces throughout LA will be set aside with chairs and trained listeners from the Sidewalk Talk Project. The listener is offering to listen to any passerby who wants to talk, tell their story and be listened to.
Community starts with intention. In our busy cities we have begun creating urban spaces that keep in mind our need for connection and community. Yet every month, dozens of people across the world are taking their own lives because they feel broken or alone. We need to pay attention to them. Our intention is to create the psychological space for talking and listening to one another to heal whatever divides us. We need to listen with our eyes, ears, hearts and minds to find moments when we can connect and make a difference in another life.
